Buying an XDFC2000 easily leads to four pitfalls: treating "machines up to 2000 mm" as if every φ2000 job is in the sweet spot; treating the optional OD/external-clamp version's parameters as the main model; treating ">1 mm" as the first-pass cutting quota; and treating the 0.10 mm nominal value as automatic workpiece acceptance. Draw the boundaries before selection, and you avoid rework on site.
XDFC610: 50–610 mm, mainly external clamp, 1 kW, 220 V
XDFC1000: 200–1000 mm, main internal-support model, 3 kW, 380 V
XDFC2000: 800–2000 mm, internal-support model for giant flanges, electric motor drive
Two questions for selection:
Bore φ800–φ2000 and the bore is intact → XDFC2000
Below φ800 → XDFC1000; above φ2000 → custom solution or shop vertical lathe
The internal-support sweet spot of the XDFC2000 is roughly φ800–φ1800. Near φ2000, keep the depth of cut conservative, lower the speed, and verify the rotary envelope first.
Internal-support centering relies on bore runout:
Clean the bore: remove rust, old bush, coking, gasket residue down to bright metal; the jaw contact band must seat fully around the circumference.
Select the support range: pick the support-leg size by the measured inner diameter — do not force an approximate size.
Expand and clamp: multi-leg even loading, lock in steps. For thin-wall large flanges, do not lock in one shot (prevents micro-deformation springback).
Check runout: dial indicator on radial runout of the rotating body + face runout. If out of tolerance, adjust the jaws — do not compensate by forcing the tool.
Lock the tool arm: set tool-tip height to center; automatic feed test run for half a revolution with no scraping.
Do not support on chamfers, overlay-weld beads, old grooves, or residual lining. For blind flanges with a plugged bore, switch to the optional external-clamp version.
The XDFC2000 main model is internal support; an OD/external-clamp version is an optional sub-type (parameters confirmed separately — do not mix them into the main model's specs).
Principle:
Intact, regular bore → internal support (main model)
Plugged bore / blind flange / small valve-seat center bore → optional external clamp
Swaying platform conditions → prefer internal expansion and tightening
When ordering, confirm per the job whether the external-clamp kit is included — do not assume every unit ships with it.
">1 mm" is the upper limit, not the first-pass quota:
Carbon steel with light rust / old gasket marks: first pass 0.3–0.5 mm to peel the layer, second pass 0.1–0.2 mm for finish turning
Stainless steel / low-temperature pipe: small depth, low speed, cutting fluid跟进
Weld build-up layer: test cut first to read hard spots; do not give full depth at once
Octagonal groove / RX ring groove: slow down at corners, hand-correct, keep groove bottom uniform
Deep pit >5 mm: build up weld first, then turn — do not force a deep cut
Speed is stepless, but for large diameters run low: for a φ2000 flange, use the low-speed range — if the outer-edge surface speed exceeds the reasonable cutting window, the face goes fuzzy. Set the exact rpm by tool and vibration state; do not fix a rigid r/min number.
Flatness: straightedge + feeler gauge; 0.10 mm is the nominal baseline; actual acceptance value is set by flange standard / pressure class
Roughness: comparison specimen, Ra 3.2; groove faces per gasket requirement
Groove shape: octagonal groove → width, depth, corner; RX ring groove → groove-bottom roundness; serrated water line → tooth depth and pitch
Coaxiality: re-check with dial indicator after internal expansion; ring gasket re-seats without shifting
Reassembly: replace with qualified gasket / ring, tighten per original torque procedure, pressure-test (hydrostatic / pneumatic) if required
"Machine nominal 0.10 mm" ≠ "workpiece automatically passes." Recommend writing the first-piece dial-indicator check + flatness re-measurement into the acceptance sheet.
The XDFC2000, bigger than the mid/small models, needs extra attention to the large internal-support jaws and the rotary table:
Clean chips from jaw threads, coat with oil to prevent seizing
Lubricate rotary table and headstock per maker's interval (large models run better with quantitative centralized lubrication)
Clear swarf and prevent rust on the tool-arm slide
Pack split modules separately; two people carry the large-jaw assembly — never stack weight on it
For long storage, release the jaws — do not leave them clamped under load
On abnormal noise, check first: loose jaws, false runout on the rotator, incomplete tool-arm lock, swarf wrap. On tool biting/scalloping: lower speed and depth first, then check tool-tip height and centering
Cooling/isolation precondition: shut down the hot line, cool ≥24 h, IR-check outer wall ≤60 °C before mounting
Bore < φ800 — do not force it: the large internal jaws cannot retract enough; unstable centering + jaw tips hanging in air will damage the bore
Thin-wall large flange — lock in steps: one-shot clamp → micro-deformation → springback after turning ruins flatness
Verify the rotary envelope first: adjacent pipes / insulation / instrument tubing must sit outside the sweep circle, or they get hit during rotation
The XDFC2000 is not "an enlarged XDFC1000" — it recovers three classes of giant-flange jobs:
φ800–φ2000 with an intact bore
Hydro / power-station / offshore / reactor flanges that cannot be removed
On-site 380 V available (or platform step-down), deep-pit weld-repair restoration needed
Three questions before dispatch: Is the bore through? Did the diameter pass 800 mm? Is it deep-damage restoration?
If internal support can mount → use it. Below 800 mm → back to XDFC1000. Bore not through → ask about the optional external-clamp version.
