In on-site maintenance scenarios, flange face wear, damaged sealing grooves, and concentricity deviation are common problems. Rather than hauling large components back to the workshop, more and more crews are opting to use portable flange lathes for local processing. Faced with several Xinda models — XDFC and XDFX — customers often ask: which one actually fits my current job? Below, we talk through the selection logic from four practical dimensions.

I. First, Tell "ID Mount" from "OD Mount"

How the flange lathe mounts determines whether you can bite firmly into the workpiece.

ID Mount (internal support):​ Models like XDFC610, XDFC1000, XDFC2000 — the support legs push outward from inside the flange bore. Suitable for large-diameter, hollow flanges and pipe-end machining. Support diameter starts from 50 mm; XDFC2000 covers up to 1800 mm ID mount range.

OD Mount (external support):​ Such as XDFC300 OD, which clamps the outer edge of the flange with external support legs. Machining diameter 0–305 mm, suitable when the flange outer edge is regular but the bore isn't convenient to brace.

There's also a lightweight option — the XDFC350 manual flange lathe, aluminum body at only ~18 kg, machining diameter 25.4–350 mm, manual feed. Suited for emergency repairs, small diameters, and tighter budgets.

Quick rule of thumb:Large flange + can reach the bore → ID mount first; outer edge easy to clamp + bore blind → check OD mount; just patching a small face temporarily → consider the manual version first.

II. Match by "Flange Diameter Range"

Xinda divides its flange lathes into several tiers by machining diameter, basically covering everything from small pipe outlets to large-diameter piping:

Diameter range is only the first step — also check whether you need "turn + mill" in one pass. For example, the XDFX4500​ in the 2000–4500 mm tier can do milling, with roughness down to ≤1.6, suited for petrochemical and nuclear pipeline applications where sealing faces are critical.

III. Look at "Machining Content" and "Site Conditions"

Even the same flange lathe can be tasked very differently:

Only facing / repairing raised faces →​ the XDFC series is enough; flatness can reach 0.05–0.1 mm (model-dependent), Ra ≤ 3.2.

Need to cut sealing grooves / serrations →​ prioritize servo models with automatic feed (XDFC610/1000/2000 all use servo motor + reducer, cross feed has fast/slow gears).

No three-phase power on site →​ note that models like XDFC300 OD and XDFC610 run on 220V single-phase; XDFC2000 and XDFX4500 require 380V.

Short-handed crew →​ most XDFC models come with a remote pendant, so one person can handle both tool setting and observation.

IV. A Few Easily Overlooked Details

Number of support legs & extension legs:​ XDFC300 OD comes standard with 4 OD support legs + 4 extension legs; for large oval flanges you can add extension legs for extra stability.

Tool post travel:​ XDFC610 has 50 mm tool post travel; XDFC1000/2000 go to 100 mm — check in advance if your sealing groove is deep.

Non-standard customization:​ The flange lathe series supports turn-mill integrated customization. If your workpiece is unusual (odd-shape flange, extra-deep sealing groove), sending the manufacturer photos of the workpiece + site is more useful than just quoting a diameter.

Accessory reuse:​ If you already own an XDT boring machine, some centering cone sleeves and tool shank sizes may be interchangeable — worth asking about to save a bit on spares.

Selecting a model — the manual gives you parameter ranges, but the real decision still comes down to three questions: how big is this workpiece, can it be stabilized on site, and do you need turning or milling?Answer those three clearly, and the model basically reveals itself.
